It should come as no surprise: Amsterdam is the most talked about city in our country. In two months, more than a million messages appeared about our capital, good for more than 300 million euros in PR value. However, Maastricht is our favorite city and The Hague the least popular. This is evident from media monitoring research by Clipit into the major cities of the Netherlands. What opportunities lie here for the city marketer?
Amsterdam is the leader, Rotterdam is coming
There is always something to do in Amsterdam. The capital has the most inhabitants, the most visitors and is the epicentre of how to practically use ai in accounting our economy. It should come as no surprise that we talk about Amsterdam more often (1,056,862 messages) than about any other Dutch city. Whether it is about the Rembrandt exhibition, liquidations or the occupation of the Maagdenhuis, Amsterdam keeps us busy. The city collected more than one million mentions in two months on the internet, in the newspaper and on radio and TV. Rotterdam (624,254) and Utrecht (524,423) follow closely.

City marketing
In recent years, city marketing has become more prominent in the policies of many municipalities. Cities are increasingly aware of their image and reputation. Rotterdam is already sawing at the legs of its big rival with the new Central Station, the Markthal and the skyscraper De Rotterdam. Eindhoven is positioning itself with Philips and the TU/e as the technical innovation centre of our country and Utrecht is aiming for global attention with the start of the Tour de France later this year.
In the midst of all this violence, communication about all our major cities is shrinking. In our previous research , at the end of 2013, clean email Amsterdam was still good for more than one and a half times as many messages as Rotterdam and Utrecht together. However, numbers two and three in number of messages are together being able to see many products on a screen good for more mentions than the capital this year. Amsterdam is alive, but the rest are not sitting still!
